The recent story about earrings made from Mintubi Plate generated so much interest that I decided to make a page for this material. Although similar material may be found in other fields, Mintubi is particularly known for opal parcels that formed in relatively large sheets at a 'level'. They are uniform in thickness and therefore 'plate-like'. When conditions are right, this can yield exquisitely bright color and the pattern is not so 'disturbed' as can be in smaller 'cavity' type deposits. In other words, the pattern, color and brightness is so uniform that when multiple stones are cut from the separate nuggets, the resulting stones appear to be 'matched'. Here we offer some of the best : |
