SPECIAL BLACK LAMBINA
Lambina is perhaps the wildest opal mining area in South Australia.

A number of years ago there was a dispute between parties over some of
the most exquisite black opal from Lambina that I have ever seen. Some 10 years ago I sold some lovely Crystal opal to a Korean. A few days later he came back with a beautiful black opal and said I would like to buy some more of this Lambina from you. I said, "No that is Lightning Ridge!" He replied, "No, it was from Lambina, it had lovely Crystal on the outside and black on the inside". So I took out the parcel and held each stone to the light to see if we could see anything in it. Sure enough there were another 2 or 3 stones with what appears to be clouds in the middle of the stones. Unbelievably what was inside was black potch with the Crystal on the outside and the potch with some colour on the inside. My Korean client had cut a very, very beautiful black opal. Needless to say he bought the next 3 stones and called me and said that if I get anymore, he would like to know about it. Unfortunately the Korean has gone to some other part of the world and I cannot contact him but I can tell you he would wet his pants if he saw this opal. As a result of the dispute, I purchased the opal very, very reasonably and therefore, I can offer it to you also at a bargain price. Below are a couple of pictures of this great parcel and another picture to show you one stone that was fractured in the mining and just how black the inside of this material is. The stones range from approximately 1 gram up to 10 grams and we are prepared to sell them individually. If you are a cutter you will very much enjoy cutting one of these stones. Or if you are a collector you should have at least one of these stones for your collection. I have only ever seen 2 parcels from Lambina that were like this. As I said, the first parcel had 3 or 4 stones but this parcel is unique in that every stone has black in the centre of it which makes for some very exclusive cutting. I can highly recommend this parcel to you. |
